About the position
The position is part of a strategic initiative to strengthen teaching in architecture and practice-based research at the department. The position will cover architectural design of large and medium-sized projects with complex and public programmes. A key element will be the interface between architecture and urbanism.
The position reports to Lise Linge.
Relevant candidates for the position must be able to document the following:
A completed fellowship programme of artistic development within the field of architecture, a doctoral degree or equivalent may cover part of the qualification requirements but cannot replace the requirement for documented architectural practice.
If there are no sufficiently qualified applicants, NTNU will consider a temporary engagement for up to 3 years to facilitate qualifying for a permanent position. If so, the permanent position may be filled without announcing a new vacancy, but will be subject to an evaluation by an expert committee.
The position provide good opportunities for professional experimentation, in-depth studies and reflection in an academic environment characterised by the underlying values of trust, collaboration, responsibility and quality.
Pedagogical skills and qualifications will be emphasised. The evaluation will be based on documented material related to teaching, the form of presentation of academic works, experience in tutoring and teaching of doctoral and Master’s degree students as well as other types of pedagogical backgrounds. Applicants with teaching experience at university level will be preferred. Quality and breadth will be evaluated. Employees without any formal university teaching competence who cannot document any equivalent qualifications, will be obliged to complete an approved pedagogical development programme over the course of two years after being appointed to the position.
Applicants skilled in a Scandinavian language may be preferred.
The holder of the position must abide by any decisions regarding changes resulting from developments within the field, as well as any organisational changes resulting from decisions concerning the activities of the university.
Reference is made to the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts for the general criteria that apply for the positions.
During the evaluation of who is best qualified, emphasis will be placed on education, experience and personal suitability, as well as the motivation for the position.
Salary and conditions
The remuneration for the position as associate professor (code 1011) is in accordance with the Norwegian State salary scale. A statutory contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund of 2% will be deducted from the salary.
Appointment takes place on the terms that apply to State employees at any given time, and you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work following the appointment.
It is assumed that the person appointed will reside in a location that will ensure that he /she may be present at and available to the institution.
For educational purposes newly employed academic staff who have not already mastered a Scandinavian language are required to achieve knowledge of Norwegian equivalent to Level 3 in the “Norwegian for Foreigners” courses provided by the Department of Linguistics, NTNU. The Department will help newly appointed staff with organizing course attendance and will cover course costs.

The Department of Architecture and Planning (IAP) has a vacancy within the field of architectural design.
IAP is one of four departments at the Faculty of Architecture and Design at NTNU. The department offers education at Master’s level in Architecture, Physical Planning, Urban Ecological Planning, as well as Real Estate and Facilities Management. IAP also carries out academic research related to the study programmes as well as research on Smart Cities, and is in the process of establishing a framework for practice-based research.
